There is a Bug in my InDesign

inDesign breaks smallcaps when publishingMy office recently ran into an unforgivable bug within inDesign.  The problem seems to be that when you package an inDesign project in CS5 any implementation of "smallcaps" gets broken and your printshop begins to use your name as a swearword!

Why You Need A Bit.ly Account

bit.ly Web Site grabMost people using tinyURL or bit.ly are doing it primarily for one reason: making tweets shorter.  In fact, anyone who has spent time using a tool like tweetdeck (now working well as a native Chrome browser app) may possibly have discovered hypershortened URLs (pronounced "Earls" not "You Are Elles").  if you don't know what a tweet is or have never benefitted from the traffic or highspeed insight o

Apple Magic Mouse Plus

For a while now I've owned a magic mouse.  And while as a concept the mouse seemed like a good idea, the implementation wasn't so great... until I found the free MagicPrefs utility application.

Web Marketing Via Slideshows

Web design is getting more complicated today.  I recall a day when designers could craft a visual design comp, PDF it, and send it to the client and it basically left nothing to the imagination. Early web design didn't move, didn't interact and the more confusing the site was, the more notoriety it seemed to get for being creative or inspiring. We are a long way from those days!

Retiring Design Techniques

In the world of design there will always be traditional techniques that endure. And the principles for good design while learned require creative insight and inspiration and talent for application.  Said another way, one can learn to be a design critic but not everyone can be a designer. Or at the least not everyone will become a good designer.

Testing Web Designs on Android (without a phone)

enginpost.com in Android's BrowserOne cool side effect of getting into Android Mobile App development would have to be the Android Emulator.  While there is plenty of stuff an emulator cannot achieve as a replacement for a real device, one great opportunity in an emulator is to be able to test

The Future Tablet Market

I have done a lot of thinking over the weekend and while I am fairly perplexed by the news about Apple shunning all of the 3rd-party development efforts for their mobile devices (Adobe included) in the end, I think there should be room to celebrate innovation and present a reasonable and analytical view of any new innovations that arrive on the market.

Fun Art For My Desktop

I noticed on the web the other day a design for a UFC site that looked like a ticket.  I decided to make a ticket that had my company logo on it for my computer desktop at work.

Dezeloper Heaven: New Interactive Designs

This is one of my favorite sites.  Every few months I loose track of it even if I have logged it in the design section of my Delicious bookmarks (simply because the list is getting a bit too long.) Some of the best tutorials I've found on layout, design, jquery interactive development as well as articles on design and development are maintained by the two brothers who run this site, Sam and Zach.

Wallpaper Patterns

I believe the first time I saw this site I read about the fact that it was created using Flex for the Flash platform.  It is really quite an amazing site.  These days I am not certain how useful the background pattern maker is (unless you want to tile images across your site like litteral wallpaper, though, I could see someone using this to create desktop wallpaper for their computer) but it is a lot of fun to fool around with.
